On 14 November, World Diabetes Day 2018 was observed to raise global awareness of the disease that affects an estimated 422 million people worldwide. Over 22% of the adult population in Mauritius is afflicted with type 2 diabetes and an equally high percentage suffers from pre-diabetes. To mark this day, CIDP’s pharma team championed a two-day hands-on and fun-packed public engagement event to showcase the burden of the disease and how to tackle the beast. During these events, the public had the opportunity to know their risk of diabetes and listen to experts in conversation. Children dressed up as scientists and had a go at some cool experiments, including guessing the amount of sugar in their favourite drinks and snacks and learning how sugar affects the body as well as the number of star jumps needed to burn off calories.
